Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science at Toronto Metropolitan University [www.torontomu.ca] invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2025, subject to final budgetary approval The focus of this search is in the fields of Radiation Oncology Physics, Radiation Physics and related areas including applications of Imaging and AI to Radiation Therapy. The successful candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Medical Physics, Physics or a related field, preferably with clinical or research experience in Radiation Therapy and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching.
The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly research or creative activity and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities.
The Department of Physics
The Department of Physics [http://www.torontomu.ca/physics] offers an undergraduate degree in Medical Physics and master’s and doctoral degrees in Physics in the fields of Biomedical Physics, CAMPEP Medical Physics and Complex Systems. The Department has at present 19 full-time faculty members, 6 post-doctoral fellows, 63 graduate students, and 9 staff members. The Department has a core group of scientists who have secured substantial external peer-reviewed funding for cutting-edge research in Medical Physics, Biomedical Physics and Complex Systems. Our faculty members collaborate extensively with the surrounding biomedical community in what the City of Toronto has designated as the Discovery District, home to 7 world-renowned hospitals and more than 30 specialized medical and related sciences centers. The University holds inter-institutional agreements with Sunnybrook and St. Michael’s hospitals that provide access to clinical and research radiation therapy and imaging facilities.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Medical Physics, Physics, or a closely related field. In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of or potential for:
- Strong and emerging scholarly research that is active, innovative and impactful. This can be evidenced by achievements such as peer reviewed publications, book chapters, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades;
- Excellence in teaching through any combination of: a statement of teaching philosophy, a list of teaching accomplishments, including experience with course/curriculum review/development, sample syllabi and teaching evaluations if available;
- Strong communication and expository skills and the ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
- The names and email contact information of three recognized referees;
- Commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
- An ability to collaborate with groups in our Department with vast expertise in Imaging and Radiation Physics as well as to contribute to the life of the Department, Faculty and the University through collegial service.
