Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the University Libraries at Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for the position of Business and Entrepreneurship Librarian, effective as soon as possible, subject to final budgetary approval.

TMU Libraries seek an ambitious Business and Entrepreneurship Librarian who champions entrepreneurship and demonstrates a strong commitment to client service and relationship building. Working within a team of liaison librarians, the Entrepreneurship Liaison is a primary contact for the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) and department chairs, and Zone learning (i.e. university incubators), and provides expertise including discipline-specific reference, research consultation, and library instruction to faculty and students in individual, group and class settings. Additionally, the Business and Entrepreneurship Librarian will build relationships with faculty, staff, and students involved with innovation and entrepreneurship efforts across the university in a functional specialist capacity.  

The position includes responsibility for collection development and promoting the use of a range of business information sources. The Librarian shapes their teaching methods, collection development and research help practices using the core values of equity, diversity and inclusion throughout. Liaison Librarians supporting Business work collaboratively, sharing responsibility for supporting graduate programs (Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Management, and PhD programs). This liaison role will have primary responsibility for Entrepreneurship, Global Management Studies, Marketing Management, and Zone Learning.

Career Librarians are expected to participate in library and university committees, and engage in professional development and/or scholarly, research and creative activities. The Librarians actively contribute to providing research assistance through both in-person and virtual service points. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. Additional duties may be assigned.

The successful candidate must be a graduate of an accredited library school with a MLS/MLIS/MISt degree or acceptable ALA recognized equivalent. In addition, the candidate must present evidence of the following: 

  • Completion of an undergraduate or a graduate degree in business, engineering, or related field, or experience working as a business/entrepreneurship librarian in an academic, public or corporate setting.
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment or as part of a start-up, or experience working as an entrepreneurship librarian.
  • Demonstrated expertise with business literature and resources, including specialized marketing databases and other resources to support entrepreneurs and students in navigating the complexities of creating a venture.
  • Experience with or demonstrable talent for outreach and relationship building across multiple faculties, units, or organizational departments/groups, or the community.
  • Experience developing and delivering instructional programming.
  • Proficiency with instructional technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  • A commitment to the responsibility of truth and reconciliation as outlined in the Calls To Action.
  • Flexibility and creativity in adapting to evolving staffing, liaison models, and emerging technologies.
  • A commitment to collaboration and collegiality with diverse stakeholders, and a strong focus on service to students, faculty and staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills and ability to operate effectively while balancing competing priorities.
  • Motivation to proactively identify work to be completed, and ability to prioritize and shift gears throughout the academic year cycle.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly, research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse population.  
  • An ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Libraries and the University through collegial service.  

 

In addition, candidates possessing the following will be preferred:

  • Familiarity with patents and patent research
  • Familiarity with standards and standards resources
  • Understanding of scholarly communication including open access publishing, journal evaluation and research impact.
  • Aptitude for thinking creatively and critically about information literacy programs and services.
  • Experience with collection development.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, project management, and problem solving skills
  • Aptitude for thinking critically about best practices for academic libraries and trends in higher education.

Employment Type: Full-Time Career Employee (FTCE)

Salary: In accordance with Article 16.4 of the collective agreement, the salary minimum for a Librarian I is $67,980.81 up to a maximum of $99,872 and the salary minimum of Librarian II is $75,846.36 up to the maximum of $102,868.16. Salary will be commensurate with experience and will increase annually by: i) an Across-the-Board increase and ii) one Career Development Increment (CDI) for satisfactory service and conditional upon receipt of the member’s annual report.

Benefits: Extended health, vision, dental, insurance, tuition waiver benefits and access to the Toronto Metropolitan University Retirement Pension Plan. Five weeks’ vacation per completed year of service. Sixteen professional development days per year.
