Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Ryerson University, in collaboration with SOTI Aerospace, invites applications for a full-time Industrial Research Chair (IRC) position at the rank of Associate (or Full) Professor, beginning January 1, 2022, subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, research and service duties. Responsibilities will include: pursuing an innovative and independent research program that is externally funded and produces cutting-edge, high-quality research in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology; contributing to our academic programs through teaching, mentoring and supervision of students to facilitate junior scholars and diversify the field; working with SOTI on advanced research in indoor UAV technology; acting as a bridge between the SOTI and Ryerson University in terms of hardware and software deliverability for indoor UAVs; focusing on early priorities including but not limited to the development of self-navigation and smart avoidance systems; and engaging in maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities within the Department of Aerospace Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline and provide evidence of the following:
- expertise in the field of UAV design and development;
- a strong background in one or more areas such as aerospace structures and systems, avionics, or UAV related AI and Computer vision;
- a strong research profile, including an established independent research program and an ability to develop a dynamic and innovative externally funded industrial research collaboration;
- potential for high-quality teaching and student training;
- a commitment to upholding the values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly, research or creative activities; a successful track record of working with a and supporting a diverse student population;
- a capacity for collegial service;
- registration [or eligibility for registration] as a professional engineer in Ontario.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in UAV technology.
