The Vice-Provost, Academic, invites expressions of interest for the position of Executive Director, Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. The successful candidate will be appointed for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2022. The successful candidate will receive course release and an administrative stipend for the period of this appointment.

The successful applicant will possess a proven record of exceptional teaching, creative and inclusive pedagogical practices, and must be a tenured RFA faculty member at the time of appointment. 

Launched in 2019, the mission of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching is to promote, guide and celebrate educational excellence at Ryerson.

The Centre, drawing from our expertise in educational development, instructional and curriculum design, academic integrity, experiential learning, digital media and e-learning, is designed to focus on integrated service delivery across three pillars:  Teaching Development and Consultation; Curriculum Enhancement; and Creative Approaches to Learning and Teaching.

Under the leadership of the Executive Director and the Centre’s Strategic Leadership Committee*, the Centre will take an holistic approach to elevating creative, effective, and evidence-informed teaching, with particular emphasis on inclusive and accessible teaching and learning. 

The Executive Director represents the Centre on university committees and externally on related matters. The Executive Director is expected to maintain current knowledge of research in learning and teaching in higher education, be familiar with best practices of learning and teaching centres, and have demonstrated experience with faculty development through active participation in professional organizations and through research and publication activities. In particular, the Executive Director will provide strategic leadership in educational development and eLearning and will work collaboratively across the Centre’s pillars to advance the development of programs and services that foster excellence in teaching and learning at Ryerson University. 

Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Academic, the Executive Director champions learning and teaching excellence across the university by collaborating and consulting with Faculties, administrators and academic units, and advocates for the advancement of teaching that reflects Ryerson’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Taking the lead from Ryerson’s Academic 2020-2025 Plan, setting and implementing strategic direction for the Centre will be a core responsibility of this position. A collegial approach and demonstrated leadership experience are required for this position. The Executive Director has administrative oversight of the Centre’s management.
